AN 800 MILE ADVENTURE TO AN ARCHIPELAGO
When we were contacted by Paul Bryant asking if we could deliver one of our containers to him in the northern most region of the UK, we didn’t hesitate in saying yes! ‘Islands of Opportunity’ is the Shetland mantra after all, and having the chance to expand our presence on the remote Scottish Isles was something not to be missed.
Having previously purchased smaller items from us, which were delivered by courier, Paul was aware of our professionalism and quality of products but hadn’t initially thought of us as the first option for delivering larger storage due to our location. However, after facing a few frustrations and disappointment from other shipping container supply companies – who either refused to deliver or insisted that he arrange his own transport – Paul reached out to us to help fulfil his requirement for extra storage to accommodate equipment and feed for his beloved Shetland Ponies.
After modifying the container to meet Paul’s specific needs, including applying an anti-condensation GrafoTherm coating, we headed north on our circa 800 mile delivery trip to the archipelago. Geographically, the Shetland Islands are closer to Norway than to mainland Scotland but despite the distance and remote location, we were able to offer a seamless delivery within the required time frame.
The islands are particularly famous for their populations of Shetland Ponies, which are native to the region, and having the necessary specification and size of storage for their feed is essential for their wellbeing.
Relieved to have found a solution, Paul expressed his gratitude saying, “Thanks again for making the process hassle-free, quick, and flawless. Having ordered the container in early May and receiving it two weeks later is hugely impressive considering specifying the addition of the anti-condensation coating and the fact we’re closer here to the Arctic circle than we are to Manchester! I will be sure to spread the word and recommend Portable Space to the other businesses in the area”.
The success of this project showcased our expertise in making things happen by overcoming logistical challenges, delivering high-quality shipping containers, and continuing to serve our customers far and wide in the UK and beyond.
Challenging Locations
With container deliveries, we are ideally placed to install in a range of unusual locations, using our larger cranes operated by our skilled and trained team.
If access is severely restricted, we can assist with mobile cranes and towable or flat pack accommodation to ensure you can provide suitable welfare accommodation wherever you need it.
As a company we are able to maintain high standards for prompt and reliable delivery by operating our own managed vehicles which makes the process much simpler. From time to time, we do work with other small sub-contractors which share our values and commitment to providing a first class service.

Shetland Islands of Opportunity
A dynamic and thriving archipelago in the heart of the North Sea. A place to live, work, study and invest.
The Shetland Islands, also known simply as Shetland, are a group of islands located in the Northern Isles of Scotland. Situated in the North Atlantic Ocean, the archipelago consists of over 100 islands, with Mainland being the largest and most populated.
The Shetland Islands offer a unique blend of stunning natural landscapes, rich history, and welcoming local communities. Whether it’s exploring archaeological sites, enjoying outdoor activities, or immersing yourself in the distinct culture, Shetland has something to offer everyone.
In terms of transportation, the islands are connected to mainland Scotland by regular ferry services and flights from Sumburgh Airport. Internal transport on the islands is served by a network of local buses and inter-island ferry services.
